Most Extraordinary Karagumoy Hat

Most Extra-ordinary Karagumoy Hat

This karagumoy hat may appear as just another utility hat, the same hat  that farmers and workers use daily in the field to shield them from the harsh tropical sun. But wait until you see the weaver.

The weaver of this hat is completely blind.

Maria was born blind. She hails from the mountain village of Kapangihan in Bulusan.

Maria from the village of Kapangihan finishes off first in the hat weaving contest under the special category of the Bulusan Livelihood Skills Competition, July 18, 2013.

  1. I want to learn how to weave the beautiful woven palm by an unknown woman, These are so different and so beautiful. Can you refer me to someone who knows how to weave this way?

    • What I wanted to learn are the different weaves by an unknown woman of your area. She brought her weaves to church as a gift, her prayer. Her weaves are beautiful and very different!

  2. Thank you for appreciating our local craft. I personally can weave this traditionally woven karagumoy hat. Well, almost all of us locals knew a step or two from the beginning weave to the last step. I’ll be happy to share the steps 🙂
Btw, thanks for visiting my almost dormant blog. My slow internet signal made my blogging on hold.
